  • About half of Americans having received at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine.

  • The US set a record number of new coronavirus cases in a single day yesterday, with more than 50,000 new infections reported. And at least 23 US states have paused or rolled back reopening plans.
  • Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed an executive order requiring residents of counties with 20 or more Covid-19 cases to wear a mask in public.
  • Unemployment rates have skyrocketed in some Latin American countries as case numbers surge.
  • The Middle East is at a “critical threshold” in the outbreak as countries have started to ease lockdowns and the pandemic speeds up, the regional WHO director said

  • Infections are up in at least 36 US states as the country heads into Fourth of July weekend. Officials fear the holiday could bring a surge in cases, and they are urging Americans to limit festivities to avoid more outbreaks. 
  • Anyone traveling from the US to England will have to self-isolate for 14 days starting on July 10. The US was not included in the UK’s list of countries exempt from these measures.
  • Brazil, second only to the US when it comes to Covid-19 cases and deaths, surpassed 1.5 million coronavirus cases

  • Australia closed the inter-state border between Victoria and NSW as result of a steep rise in Melbourne’s Covid-19 cases

  • The Trump administration has notified Congress and the United Nations that the United States is formally withdrawing from the World Health Organization.
  • The Australian city of Melbourne is under a six-week lockdown as the country battles a potential second wave of the virus.
  • Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro tested positive for Covid-19, following months of downplaying the pandemic

  • Much of the rising cases have been attributed to the now dominant Delta variant, which is believed to be more transmissible.
  • The FDA warned Monday of a possible increased risk of a rare neurological complication known as Guillain-Barré syndrome tied to the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. One hundred preliminary reports of the syndrome had been filed, out of 12.8 million Janssen vaccines given

COVID-19 News:

  • The number of new Covid-19 cases reported to the World Health Organization rose by 259,848 in 24 hours, the WHO said on Saturday. This is the largest single-day increase since the pandemic began.
  • The Australian state of Victoria is making mask-wearing mandatory, as cases there spike. "We are going to be wearing masks in Victoria, and potentially in other parts of the country for a very long time," the state premier said.

Chris took me to this awesome urban plaza down town to get arepas. They were so good. 



My kids took my to this French Asian Bakery for dessert. I love this place.

Coronavirus will kill 100,000 more people by the time the Tokyo Olympics is over, the World Health Organization has warned. In the US, top health and White House officials will soon meet to discuss mask recommendations as cases continue to mount. These new cases are ravaging more people in lower-risk groups, like young adults, than early waves of the pandemic. CDC advisers will also meet today to review whether a booster shot of a Covid-19 vaccine will be necessary soon. At a CNN town hall yesterday in Ohio, President Biden expressed frustration over people who refuse to get vaccinated. While breakthrough infections do happen, new cases are overwhelmingly affecting the unvaccinated.

  • The US surpassed 4 million Covid-19 cases. The country added 1 million known cases in just 15 days as some states reported record-breaking numbers.
  • President Trump has canceled the Jacksonville, Florida, component of the Republican National Convention.
  • The Trump administration and Pfizer have reached a deal to produce 100 million doses of a Covid-19 vaccine in the US. It will need emergency authorization from officials before it can be distributed. 
  • Brazil's government has claimed that the local epidemic is "under control" despite tens of thousands of new cases being announced daily


  July 24, 2021: Day 496 of COVID

COVID-19 Updates:

  • American medical experts are urging political leaders to shut down the US and start over to contain the pandemic after the US surpassed 4 million Covid-19 cases.
  • President Trump said Republicans have scrapped plans to hold convention activities in Jacksonville, as the pandemic continues to surge in Florida.
  • Mexico reported more than 700 new deaths and at least 8,400 cases in 24 hours as the country's epidemic grows out of control. It currently has the world's fourth largest death toll


  July 25, 2021: Day 497 of COVID

  • American medical experts are urging political leaders to shut down the United States to contain the pandemic after the country surpassed 4 million Covid-19 cases.
  • North Korea has reported its first suspected case of Covid-19.
